I was born and
raised in the Kittitas
Valley. I saw
"the old farm
house" nearly every
day on my way
into town.
I remem-
ber it
clearly...
I sent up a
child's silent
prayer
request,
"I would love
to live in a house like that some day."
A CASUAL CONVERSATION
Some time later I was having a conver-
sation with a friend of mine, and she
mentioned that she owned alpacas.
My interest was piqued and I began to
research all that I could about this
remarkable camelid.
The more I learned, the more I realized
alpaca were the answer to the dilemma
I faced of raising an animal that was
both easy on the land and an easy
keeper. Also, the idea of owning
alpacas appealed to my husband's
utilitarian side which posed the question:
"What purpose do they serve?"
Alpaca fiber comes in over 27 natural
colors or it may be dyed into the many
rich, bold colors of the rainbow. The
only limitation is one's imagination.
Additionally, I've learned first-hand
how truly intelligent alpacas are and
how they rely on each other for
their social well being. Alpacas move
gracefully and being in their
presence is therapeutic. They
reveal the awe inspiring beauty of
God's creation.
This is what convinced me to open
my heart to the fascinating world
of alpaca ownership, and I have
never looked back.
